Firm Rebar Price in Tokyo

Concrete reinforcing steel bar market price is firm at around 113,000 yen per tonne for base size products both at direct shipment from makers to users and at inventory sales by the dealers around Tokyo. The price could increase more when the makers try to improve the profitability while the demand is expected to decrease due to increasing cancellation for condominium building plans. The makers cannot make money with averaged 82,000 yen per tonne of shipping price while they reduce the ferrous scrap purchase price aggressively. The rebar makers try to find the timing to increase the selling price by around 5,000 yen more. The dealers try to pass higher cost price on the market before the additional hike. However, the selling price range to users is widened when some transaction reached 120,000 yen per tonne while major users get lower price depending on the financial position. The dealers are getting cautious on potential insolvency of the users when some general contractors filed for bankruptcy. Lower demand could pressure on the market price.
