Firm Structural Steel Bar Price in Tokyo

Structural steel bar market price is expected to increase more around Tokyo after the makers’ 10,000 yen per tonne hike. The price is around 130,000 yen per tonne for structural carbon steel bar and 160,000 yen for chrome molybdenum steel bar. The price is likely to increase with pressure from supply side and firm demand for manufacturers.

The supply is tight under firm demand and limited production capacity. The market interests expect the supply could get tighter in and after October when the users of automakers and other manufacturers plan high level output. The demand is firm for automobile and construction and industrial machinery.

The makers reduce the supply mainly for distributors when the makers try to secure the supply volume for strong order from manufacturers. The distributors’ inventory gets lower and a dealer source said the stock of some sizes is tight, especially for products with large diameter.
