JFE Steel Achieves 10,000t High Strength Plate Shipment

JFE Steel announced on Wednesday its total shipment volume of high strength steel plate for heat input welding achieved 10,000 tonnes since April 2003. High strength steel shows toughness in heat affected zone compared with ordinary plate. High strength steel plate is used mainly for columns of high-rise building with its good performance for earthquake protection. In addition, this material contributes to shorter lead time and smaller cost, which requires only 1-pass welding process.

JFE Steel developed JFE EWEL technology to control heat affected zone and developed high strength steel plate for shipbuilding and building construction by the technology. The market of high strength steel plate is 2,000-3,000 tonnes per year. JFE Steel accounts for a major share. JFE Steel continues to develop a plate with higher performance and efficiency as a construction material.
