Weak Galvanized Steel Wire Price in Tokyo

Galvanized steel wire market price is weak at around 190,000 yen per tonne for products with 4 millimeters diameter and at around 210,000 yen for products with 2 mm diameter in Tokyo. Dealers’ sales volume is decreasing by around 30% from a year earlier. Galvanized steel wire makers are halving the output from a year earlier. Their shipment keeps slow.

Some makers are likely to continue low production when dealers’ and users’ inventory adjustment may be retard after May. A dealer source said users strongly request the price cut to dealers. Galvanized steel wire makers keep the selling price because material cost for wire rod hasn’t changed.

Integrated steel makers and electric furnace steel makers can’t decide the selling price of wire rod until agreement of raw material price negotiation. The market price of galvanized steel wire doesn’t hit the bottom until conclusion of galvanized steel wire makers’ selling price.

A maker executive said the shipment is expected to increase after July. On the other hand, makers and dealers are afraid of cheaper imports or panicky selling by some dealers.
