Ferrous scrap market price is firm at around 15,600 yen per tonne for pressed new cutting scrap and around 14,600 yen for new cutting scrap without press at the dealers’ purchase price including freight around Tokyo. The price is likely to keep firm with support by export price from Tokyo bay.
Local electric furnace steel makers pay 19,500-21,000 yen per tonne for new cutting scrap. The scrap dealers increased the purchase price by 1,500 yen in the month when local steel makers raised the scrap purchase price to secure the material. The scrap export FAS price, which is higher than purchase price by local steel makers, encourages local players’ price increase.
