Japan Secondary Al Alloy Output Stays Bottom in March

Japanese secondary aluminium alloy ingot production decreased by 59% to 41,636 tonnes in March from a year earlier while the shipment decreased by 56.3% to 44,077 tonnes, according to Japan Aluminium Alloy Refiners Association. The production represented year-on-year decrease for 10 straight months and the shipment for 8 months. The range of drop in March was the secondly widest following February 2009.

The shipment dropped by 54.3% to 26,110 tonnes for die casting and by 62.1% to 10,076 tonnes for castings. Automotive parts makers, the main consumers of secondary aluminium alloy, minimized secondary aluminium procurement to reduce their inventories at the end of Japanese fiscal year in March. Secondary aluminium alloy makers’ order receipts seemed to plunge consequently.
