Japan Electric Wire Export Drops by 10.1% in F2008

Japanese electric wire export decreased by 10.1% to FOB 306.4 billion yen in fiscal 2008 ended March 2009 from fiscal 2007, according to Japanese Electric Wire & Cable Makers’ Association. The import decreased by 19.7% to CIF 501.6 billion yen. The value decreased due to demand drop in second half along with lower unit price. The export increased for power cable and optical cable.

The export increased by 4.6% to FOB 346.7 billion yen in calendar year 2008 from 2007 while the import decreased by 4.8% to CIF 587.9 billion yen. The export turned into drop in fiscal 2008 while the import drop was wider.

Copper price of the conductor material was averaged 657,400 yen per tonne in fiscal 2008 compared with 916,000 yen in fiscal 2007. The price decreased to 407,500 yen in second half of fiscal 2008 from 867,500 yen in second half of fiscal 2007. The lower price reduced the trade value.
