Kyoei Steel Keeps Top Rebar Makers in F2008

Japanese reinforcing steel bar output decreased by 16% to 9.85 million tonnes in fiscal 2008 (Apr08-Mar09) from fiscal 2007, which hit below 10 million tonnes for the first time since fiscal 1977. Especially, the output dropped for January-March 2009.

The top maker was Kyoei Steel, no.2 was Daiwa Steel and no.3 was Tokyo Tekko. These 3 makers’ positions didn’t change. The amount of the output decreased by 17% at Kyoei Steel in fiscal 2008 form fiscal 2007, by 16% at Daiwa Steel and by 19% at Tokyo Tekko.

Ito Seitetsujo increased the share position to forth from fifth. Asahi Industries Group increased the share position to fifth from seventh. The output volume decreased by 10% year-to-year at Ito Seitetsujo and by 2% at Asahi Industries. The 2 makers’ shares rose by 0.4 percentage points and 0.6 percentage points.

Kishiwada Steel lowered the share position to sixth from forth. Godo Steel decreased the share position to seventh from sixth. The amount of the output decreased by 29% at Kishiwada Steel and by 11% at Godo Steel. Kishiwada Steel’s share doened by 0.7 percentage points while Godo Steel’s share upped by 0.3 percentage points.

Mitsuboshi Kinzoku Kogyo’s share position didn’t change at eighth. Mitsuboshi’s output decreased by 14% and the firm’s share upped by 0.1 percentage points.
