Furukawa Electric Develops Automotive Barrier Radar

Furukawa Electric announced on Wednesday the firm developed automotive barrier screening ultra wide band radar with 26 GHz band, which fits for various countries’ radio wave regulation. The radar can downsize into palm size while the high accuracy inexpensive radar can be used in wet weather. The firm tries to commercialize in and after 2013.

The firm got license for radio experimentation test station from Japanese government. The firm can test the radar through vehicle driving in public road.

The radar calculates distance, speed and direction of barrier through short pulse signal as short as less than several nano seconds. The radar has high accuracy with less carrier leak. The radar can figure out the barrier information in error at plus minus 7.5 centimeters in 30 meters of distance.

The firm develops the radar in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa. The firm tries to test the performance of the radar in the site and public road.
