JPCA Prepares for New Standard of LED Electronic Circuit Boards

Japan Electronics Packaging & Circuits Association (JPCA) announced on Tuesday the association established a working group to set a new standard for electronic circuit boards of LED (light emitting diode) illuminations. The new standard aims to confirm heat dissipating measures for electronic circuit boards of LED illuminations. Related 62 companies entered the working group.

LED illuminations are currently adopted to public spaces, offices, residences and automobiles. LED lamps represent lower power consumption and longer operating life than incandescent bulbs and fluorescent lights. Meanwhile, LED with higher intensity and output power requires heat dissipation of electronic circuit boards.

Tsunemasa Taguchi, professor of graduate school of Science and Engineering, Yamaguchi University, assumed a chairperson of the working group. The working group plans to release a draft of the new standard in June 2010.
