Low Carbon Steel Wire Price is Weak Tone in Tokyo

Low carbon steel wire market price is weak at 132,000 yen per tonne for standard products with 4 millimeters diameter and at 124,000 yen for products adapting to general purposes around Tokyo. The market price is expected to continue weak tone after the beginning of next year. Steel wire makers and dealers expect the demand for civil engineering increases for January-March in demand season, which will maintain the selling prices. However, there is possible the market price drops due to low demand and increased import of wire products. Many dealers forecast dealers’ shipping doesn’t rebound within this year when it takes 2 months the demand for civil engineering makes an impact to dealers’ shipment.

Wire products makers and dealers would like to keep the selling price when their profits are decreasing, but some makers and dealers reduces the selling price when users are strongly requesting price cut to makers and dealers.

The amount of wire rod import increased to 12,334 tonnes by 17.6% in October from September, according to Ministry of Finance. Wire products market price would decrease if imported products price drops.
