Japan Secondary Al Alloy Makers Target Over 200 yen/kg for December

Japanese major secondary aluminium alloy makers including Daiki Aluminium Industry, Nikkei MC Aluminium and Summit Showa Aluminum try to get 5-10 yen per kilogram of price hike for AD12.1 for December shipment at ongoing negotiation with users. The suppliers try to increase the price to more than 200 yen including freight at the negotiation, which could be concluded in next week. The suppliers try to pass the higher cost for aluminium scrap and additives.

The suppliers couldn’t increase the price for 2 months in a row through November. However, aluminium scrap market price turned into increase and increased by 10 yen per kg in December under higher international aluminium market. Metallic silicon market price surges since November and Japanese import price reached more than US$ 2,500 per tonne at CIF Japan for Chinese silicon.

Chinese secondary alloyed aluminium price keeps increasing. Shanghai Sigma Metals’ offer is year-high US$ 2,080 per tonne. The price increased by around 20 yen per kg while domestic suppliers’ alloy price stays low level. Japanese alloy makers’ operation rate increased to 70% of the peak and is expected to improve in January-March.
