Mitsubishi Materials Develops Polluted Water Treatment Equipment

Mitsubishi Materials and Mitsubishi Materials Techno developed transportable equipment to treat polluted water with heavy metal, announced on Thursday. With the equipment, which can be transported by 4-tonne track, Mitsubishi Materials Techno started soil and water cleanup operation.

The equipment cleans the soil and water by the method, which Mitsubishi Materials own patent. The method is to absorb heavy metals in polluted water to ferrioxide and to turn the metals into ferrite. The method can remove heavy metals including selenium, arsenic and hexavalent chrome from water enough to meet environmental standards.

The method uses bivalent iron and alkali to treatment polluted water. After the treatment, the sludge with rich ferrite is recovered and is recycled at Mitsubishi Materials’ refinery and cement plant.

The effluent treatment equipment has been implemented verification test for 2 years to December 2009. Mitsubishi Materials owns only one unit and the firm increases the equipment inventory depending on the treatment demand.
