Daiwa Steel, Japanese major electric furnace steel maker, will renew no.2 electric furnace in Mizushima works in July 2010. The firm will not change the furnace volume but change the furnace shape to improve the productive efficiency. The construction period is scheduled at one month. The firm prepares the stocks of semi-finished and steel products before the renewal.
Daiwa Steel has tried to improve the productive quality and efficiency at Mizushima works in 2 years. The works introduced a ladle furnace in April 2008 to produce high grade products such as high tensile steel bar. In October 2009, continuous billet casting equipment was introduced to stabilize inner quality of billets. Mizushima works has two 100-tonne electric furnaces. One is 6,700 millimeters diameter and the other is 7,000 millimeters diameter. No.2 furnace will be downsized in diameter while heightened for better heat efficiency and smoother ferrous scrap melting.M | T | W | T | F | S | S |
