Japan Carbon Steel Export Increases by 75.6% in April

Japanese carbon steel export increased by 75.6% to 2.411 million tonnes in April from a year earlier, year-to-year plus for 7 months in a row, announced by Japan Iron and Steel Federation on Wednesday. Compared with the previous month, the export decreased by 16.8%. But the volume maintained high level due to strong demand in China, South Korea and Taiwan. Total steel export increased by 62.8% to 3.506 million tonnes from a year earlier, which exceeded record 3.158 million tonnes in April. 1976.

Wide hot strip export increased by 71.3% to 753,000 tonnes. Zinc coated sheet increased by 2.4 times to 483,000 tonnes, plate increased by 3.7% 267,000 tonnes, wide clod strip increased by 2.3 times to 348,000 tonnes and welded steel tube increased by 3.8 times to 93,000 tonnes. Meanwhile, seamless steel tube decreased by 4.9% to 54,000 tonnes, minus for 15 consecutive months.

The total export increased by 31.4% to 885,000 tonnes for South Korea in April from a year earlier, plus for 11 consecutive months. The export increased by 35.7% to 674,000 tonnes for China, plus for 6 months in a row. The export increased by 43.8% to 300,000 tonnes for Taiwan, plus for 9 consecutive months. The export to Thailand increased by 3.6 times to 374,000 tonnes, plus for 6 consecutive months.
