Nippon Steel Restarts Multi Functional Furnace in Nagoya Works

Nippon Steel restarts operation of a MF (mulch functional) furnace in Nagoya Works on July 20, according to a concerned source. The firm advances ferrous scrap utilization when ferrous scrap market price stays at low level.

MF furnace produces hot metal from new cutting scrap, HS grade scrap and pig iron. The furnace can also recycle high zinc dust. Output capacity of Nagoya’s MF furnace is about 37,000 tonnes per month.

Nagoya works has continued ferrous scrap procurement for the furnace to prepare for operation recommence. Ferrous scrap market price is recently weakening while hot metal cost is rising due to price jump up of coal and iron ore. The works restarts operation of MF furnace with an expectation for cost merit. The operation period is scheduled for 2 months.
