Japanese ferrous scrap export decreased by 36.8% to 3.503 million tonnes for January-June 2010 from the corresponding period of 2009, according to Ministry of Finance. The export more than halved to China and Taiwan when Japanese ferrous scrap price was higher than other countries’ prices.
The export decreased by 3.3% to 2.021 million tonnes to South Korea for January-June 2010 from the same period of 2009, while dropping by 56.6% to 1.312 million tonnes by 56.6% to China and by 52.2% to 118,000 tonnes to Taiwan. The monthly export was 612,000 tonnes in January, 845,000 tonnes in February, 487,000 tonnes in March, 694,000 tonnes in April, 446,000 tonnes in May and 420,000 tonnes in June. The largest importer was South Korea every month.
