DUBAL Group to Expand Aluminium Sales to 2.55 Million T in 2015

Dubai Aluminium (DUBAL)’ CEO Abdulla J M Kalban said at press conference in Tokyo on Monday the group’s aluminium sales increases by 33% to 1.8 million tonnes including sales by Emirates Aluminium (EMAL) in 2011 from 2010. He said the group’s sales will reach 2.55 million tonnes in 2015.

EMAL, in which DUBAL has 50% interest, plans to expand the output to 1.5 million tonnes in 2015 compared with planned 750,000 tonnes in 2011 while DUBAL plans 1.05 million tonnes of output in 2011 and 2015.

The group plans to sell 500,000 tonnes in Middle East and North Africa, 550,000 tonnes in Asia and 750,000 tonnes in Europe in 2011. The sales to Japanese buyers will increase by 30% to 234,000 tonnes from 2010. The firm tries to expand the sales in strategic market of Japan.

DUBAL’s products includes 350,000 tonnes of alloy for casting, 50,000 tonnes for high purity aluminium ingot and 600,000 tonnes of billet for extrusion in 2011. EMAL plans to make 350,000 tonnes of standard grade aluminium ingot, 100,000 tonnes of slab and 300,000 tonnes of billet.

EMAL will decide the expansion plan by March 2011 while the firm already agreed for natural gas supply contract for the expansion. The expansion will be completed by end of 2013.

DUBAL has interests in 4 alumina projects in Cameroon, Brazil, India and Guinea. The Cameroon project with 7.4 million tonnes of annual output capacity will start operation in 2013. Mr. Kalban said the brownfield project takes only 9 months while the construction start will be decided.
