Japan Major 5 Steels’ Daily Steel Output Declines in October

Raw steel output by Japanese five integrated steel makers increased by 5.6% to 7.337 million tonnes in October from a year earlier. The output increased by 2.6% from September but the output per day decreased to 236,677 tonnes from 238,433 tonnes in September. The steel makers reduced the output due to supply and demand adjustment in Asia and the end of subsidy for eco-friendly car purchase by Japanese government.

The daily output of Nippon Steel, JFE Steel and Sumitomo Metal Industries decreased in October from September while Kobe Steel’s output increased after the blast furnace trouble outage through September.

The monthly output in October increased by 4.3% for Nippon Steel from a year earlier. The output increased by 2.3% for JFE Steel, by 7.8% for Sumitomo Metals, by 18.7% for Kobe Steel and 10.0% for Nisshin Steel.

The 5 makers’ pig iron output increased by 7.9% to 7.139 million tonnes in October from a year earlier. The output increased by 4.1% from September and the daily output increased to 230,290 tonnes from 228,600 tonnes in September.
