Nippon Steel Encourages Group Companies to Acquire HACCP for Tinplate

Nippon Steel encourages overseas tinplate group companies to acquire certification of international standard for food safety, HACCP. Nippon Steel acquired HACCP in January 2011. This is the first case that Asian steel maker acquires HACCP. Overseas users mainly in Europe appreciate Nippon Steel’s HACCP acquisition and increase adoption of Nippon Steel’s tinplate in some cases. Nippon Steel builds up quality competitiveness as a group total and introduces HACCP acquisition to all overseas customers through price negotiation for April-June 2011.

Nippon Steel adjusted its management system with HACCP requirement through discussions with JIC Quality Assurance, Japanese certification authority, and acquired HACCP certification after monitoring of productive lines for a half year. Nippon Steel plans to extend HACCP acquirement to overseas group companies early.

In China, out-of-standard tinplate is sold though some steel makers declare self quality assurance along with Chinese national GB standard or Japanese Industrial Standard. Nippon Steel judged it is necessary to evaluate product quality by third party.
