Japan Makers’ Offshore Shovel Output to Reach 60%

Japanese construction machinery makers’ overseas production rate of hydraulic shovel will reach around 60% in 2011, according to Japan Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association. The makers’ production will increase by 26% to 160,500 units in 2011 from 2010, 59% of which will be made in offshore plants. The shipment for offshore buyers represents 91% while the domestic shipment is only 9%. The makers try to improve the productivity at offshore plants when the demand is growing mainly in Asia.

The association expects hydraulic shovel production increases by 23% to 66,000 units in Japan and by 29% to 94,500 units in offshore plants in 2011 from 2010. The shipment increases by 4% to 14,600 units for domestic market and by 29% to 145,900 units for offshore market.

Japanese makers’ hydraulic shovel production increased by 111% to 127,000 units in 2010 from 2009. The production increased by 120% to 53,500 units in Japan and by 105% to 73,500 units in offshore plants. The shipment increased by 38% to 14,100 units for domestic market and by 151% to 112,900 units for offshore market.

The association expects Japanese makers’ mini hydraulic shovel production increases by 23% to 76,600 units in 2011 from 2010. The production increases by 18% to 52,900 units in Japan and by 38% to 23,700 units in offshore plants. The shipment increases by 6% to 14,900 units for domestic market and by 28% to 61,700 units for offshore market. The domestic production represents around 70% of the total production while the domestic shipment is only 20%.
