The 9.0-magnitude Northeast Pacific Earthquake in Tohoku area, the largest earthquake in recorded history in Japan, left much destruction behind “Iron steel and nonferrous metal industry”. A lot of blast furnaces steel manufactures and electric furnaces steel makers have stopped operating in Tohoku and Kanto region after the disaster.
In Tohoku area, the tsunami caused heavy damage including flooding to Nippon steel Kamaishi Works, Tohoku steel, JFE Bars & Shapes Corporation Sendai Works, Itoh Iron & Steel Ishimaki Works and Tokyotekko Hachinohe factory. Some equipments was flooded. In Kanto area, it is also causing damage to distributing and processing base, Nippon Steel Kimitsu, JFE Steel East Japan Works, each electric furnaces and factories in Sumitomo Metal Industries Kashima works and Urayasu Steel Industrial Zone.M | T | W | T | F | S | S |
