Flat Rolled Al to Keep Price Level in Tokyo

Flat rolled aluminium market price is flat at around 565 yen per kilogram for material with 1 millimeter thick and 1,000 mm width and 2,000 mm length around Tokyo. The price is around 580 yen for material with 1 mm thick, 400 mm width and 1,200 mm length and 635 yen for flat aluminium alloy for A5052P grade. The price is expected to keep the level under tight supply while the price couldn’t increase.

The dealers tried to pass higher cost based on primary aluminium ingot price on the flat aluminium selling price in August when the dealers could not get higher cost fully. However, many of the dealers now expect the market wouldn’t accept higher price partly due to uncertainty for ingot price move.

One dealer source sees flat aluminium demand would slow mainly for semiconductor and liquid crystal making equipment in August compared with normal August level. The users would reduce the output due to obligation for daytime power saving. However, aluminium re-rollers could reduce supply for the dealers to meet rapidly recovering demand for automobile parts. The dealers’ supply would get tight.
