Japan Steel Drum Price to Increase by 360 yen/kg

Japanese steel drum makers agreed with the users including chemical makers to increase steel drum price by around 360 yen per unit by the end of July. The drum price increases to 4,000-4,500 yen per unit for base size with 24 kilograms weight.

Japanese steel drum demand was stable thanks to chemicals export for China. The steel drum shipment increased by 3.625 million units in April-June from same period of last year, according to Japan Steel Drum Association.

However, one steel drum maker source sees the monthly shipment would decrease by 5-10% for July and August compared with the shipment in June. Japanese chemicals export would decrease due to economic adjustment in China and the chemical makers’ inventory adjustment. The steel drum makers see the demand recovers for automobile in and after August.
