METI to Plan Nonferrous Metals Joint Survey in DRC

Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry plans to cooperate with the authorities of Democratic Republic of the Congo in joint survey for nonferrous metals and resources. Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation will sign an agreement for the cooperation in one or two months at the earliest. METI sent public and private mission for mineral resources in Democratic Republic of the Congo to the country early August.

In Democratic Republic of the Congo, the authorities have little specific data on the mineral resources in the country when the authorities implemented geological survey with Belgian Union Miniere in 1970s. METI plans to provide satellite image analysis training for the staffs of the authorities in Kinshasa and JOGMEC’s Botswana Geologic Remote Sensing Centre. METI also sees joint research and joint exploration with the authorities if they find an area, which contains rich resources.
