Ferrous Scrap Price to Hit Bottom in Tokyo

Ferrous scrap market price shows sign to hit bottom around Tokyo when the shipment increases to western Japan and the export price improves for East Asia. The price could increase depending on the export transaction when the market price already increases around Osaka.

Electric furnace steel makers pay 33,500-35,000 yen per tonne for H2 grade scrap around Tokyo, which is same as last week level. Local scrap supply is still loose but the situation is improving due to higher volume for western Japan. Higher US scrap export price to Turkey could also impact on US scrap export price to East Asia.

Electric furnace steel makers around Osaka pay 36,500-38,500 yen per tonne for H2 grade scrap, which is 3,000-4,000 yen higher than purchase price by makers around Tokyo. Osaka’s makers pay more for spot based purchase. Under tight local supply, Osaka’s makers try to secure scrap from Tokyo area.
