POSCO, Korea, announced on 7th to blow in No.1 blast furnace improved in Gwangyang Steel Works. Cubic capacity of furnace was expanded to 6000 cubic meter which is the world biggest size. Though annual output increased from 3.28 million tons to 5.48 million tons that is the world’s largest, increasing pig iron will be put to substitute of scrap and the firm does not increase output of crude steel and steel material. 130 billion won level cost cut per year will be expected due to most-advanced pig iron manufacture technology, cost cut for manufacture of pig iron and scrap substitution effect.
