Japan Carbon Steel Import Rises by 15.5% in May

Japanese import of carbon steel products increased by 15.5% to 394,740 tonnes in May from April, announced by Japan Iron and Steel Federation on Thursday. The import increased for wire rod, plate and sheet steel products under higher manufacturers’ activity. The import could increase more from China and South Korea under higher yen rate.

The carbon steel import increased by 12.2% to 265,822 tonnes from South Korea in May from April. The import increased by 5.8% to 43,017 tonnes from China and by 40.5% to 81,838 tonnes from Taiwan.
