Japan Electronics Parts Shipment Hits First Increase in 14-Months

Japanese electronics parts shipment increased by 1.9% to 258.8 billion yen including shipment from offshore transplant in February from a year earlier, according to Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association. The shipment increased for the first time since December 2010.

The passive parts shipment decreased by 5.6% to 88.6 billion yen in February from a year earlier. The shipment was less than 100 billion yen for 5 months in a row but increased by 6.7% from January. The capacitor shipment reached 50 billion yen for the first time in 3 months. The coil shipment increased for the first time in 11 months in year to year basis.

The total connecting parts shipment decreased by 1% to 65.3 billion yen in February from a year earlier. The connector shipment increased from a year earlier due to recovery from the impact of Thai flood despite slower switch shipment.

The transducer shipment increased by 20% to 71.1 billion yen in February from a year earlier. The small motor shipment hit the highest level since 38.9 billion yen in March 2010. The audio and visual parts shipment increased for 9 months in a row.
