Japanese forging steel ingot maker, Asia Special Steel decided to terminate the operation on Tuesday. The firm eyes special liquidation under consultation of lawyer. The Kitakyushu based maker was established as Japanese first specialized ingot maker by Tokyo based Kotobuki Industries and POSCO’s steel process company or current POSCO Processing & Service (POSCO P&S) in July 2007.
Asia Special Steel constructed around 15 billion yen plant with annual 150,000 tonnes of production capacity in 2009. The firm has supplied more than 90% of the products for South Korean forging makers through POSCO P&S. However, the firm’s debt was 6.116 billion yen more than the assets at the end of December 2011 due to lower demand after Lehman Shock and historical higher yen exchange rate. The firm seeks the buyer of the plant.M | T | W | T | F | S | S |
