Secondary Al Alloy Makers Raise Scrap Purchase Price

Secondary alloyed aluminium makers around Tokyo agreed with aluminium scrap suppliers to increase the scrap purchase price for first half of February, which is the first increase in around a year. The price increases by averaged 5 yen per kilogram for high grade scrap and by 3 yen for lower grade scrap. The alloy makers around Osaka increased the scrap purchase price by 2-5 yen, which is the first increase since first half of March 2011.

The makers around Tokyo allowed 6-7 yen per kg higher price for used beverage can scrap for first half of February. The price increases for the first time since second half of August 2011. The makers accepted higher scrap price but slow domestic demand impacted on the talk.

The new high grade scrap price is 150-155 yen per kg for new cutting and 63S grade scrap around Tokyo. The price is 152-157 yen for aluminium printing plate scrap. The lower grade scrap price is 122-127 yen for machinery casting scrap, 100-105 yen for alloy turning scrap and 125-130 yen for sash scrap with screw. Used beverage can scrap price is 103-108 yen.

The makers around Osaka increased the high grace scrap purchase price by around 5 yen per kg. They pay 148-154 yen per kg for new cutting scrap, 125-132 yen for pressed sash scrap and 104-109 yen for used beverage can scrap. The makers increase the lower grade scrap purchase price by 2-3 yen.

The scrap suppliers tried to increase the scrap price by 10 yen per kg for high grade scrap, by more than 5 yen for low grade scrap and by near 10 yen for used beverage can scrap around Tokyo. However, the alloy makers reduced the increase citing availability of cheap import.
