POSCO and Toyota Motor’s trading affiliate, Toyota Tsusho signed memorandum of understanding for development of magnesium and new material business on Thursday. They keep talking for potential cooperation in magnesium supply, market development, joint investment in magnesium business and joint work for new material business.
POSCO will launch the operation of magnesium refinery with 10,000 tonnes of annual production capacity in Gangneung, Gangwon province of South Korea in June 2012. The firm and Toyota Tsusho are negotiating on the ingot supply for Japan. Through the talk, POSCO would supply the ingot for Toyota Motor group and automobile parts makers. POSCO will increase the capacity of new refinery to 100,000 tonnes per year by 2018. Toyota Tsusho could pay a part of the cost for the expansion.
