Sumitomo Metal Industries appeals its thermo mechanical control process (TMCP) for super high tensile shaped steels and steel plates used as building materials. Demand for earthquake-resistant buildings is raised after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Sumitomo Metals accesses large building projects, appealing TMCP. Besides the firm increases size lineup for extra-thickness high web H-beam.
Sumitomo Metals’ super high tensile steel products have been adopted to major projects in Japan. SA-TT630, steel tube with above 630 MPa yield strength, was used for gain-tower of Tokyo Sky Tree. H-SA700, steel plate with above 700MPa yield strength, was firstly adopted to an engineering laboratory of Obayashi Corporation, Japanese major general contractor. Sumitomo Metals used SSS 1000, steel plate with above 880 MPa yield strength, in renewal of the company’s main technical research institute. After the mega earthquake, Japanese enterprises are checking earthquake resistance of their business sites for BCP (business continuing performance). Sumitomo Metals expects for demand expansion for super high tensile steel products then. The firm also develops special welding technology for super high tensile steel products to promote the products widely in the market. The firm currently added 57 new sizes of high web H-beam with 700-900 millimeters of web height. Newly added items have thinner web or extra thick flange, those which can be used for high-rise buildings. Sumitomo Metals explains high web H-beam contributes to cost reduction in high-rise building by about 10% compared with built-type H-beam.M | T | W | T | F | S | S |
