
World production of automotive aluminium wheel will increase by 8.3% to 216.6 million units in 2011 from 2010, according to Chinese wheel major, Chongqing Jieli Wheel Manufacturing. Chinese production could represent more than 50% of the world production when wheel makers in industrialized countries expand Chinese operation and Chinese makers expand the production.
The world production increased by 19% to 200 million units in 2010 from 2009. Chinese production increased by 52% to 99.8 million tonnes, which represented around 50% of the world production. Many wheel makers from North America, Europe and Japan shift the production to China. The wheel production in European Union increased by 6.7% to 35 million units in 2010 from 2009 but the share decreased by 3.5 percentage points to 17.5%. The production was flat at 26.2 million units in North America and decreased by 16% to 25.9 million units. Chinese wheel makers expand the production. Chinese wheel makers are now more than 80 companies while only one maker was in China in 1988. Chongqing Jieli Wheel Manufacturing tries to be Chinese number 1 maker. The firm is building new plant on 290,000 square makers of land in Chongqing to start operation of the first phase plant with 3.5 million units of annual output capacity in March 2012. The firm expands the capacity to 10 million units in the final stage.
