POSCO-JNPC Opens New Steel Deposit in Yokkaichi

POSCO’s steel coil center, POSCO-JNPC opened new deposit in Yokkaichi, Mie on Thursday. The firm tries to improve delivery service for automobile industry users in the areas through new deposit with 65,000 tonnes of stock capacity and 2 times higher handling efficiency.

The firm held opening ceremony with around 100 attendees on the day. The firm completed the construction of the deposit with 11,700 square meters of floor space on 20,000 square meters of land in September, which is located in next to Yokkaichi plant opened in 2009. The new deposit with 4 20-tonnes cranes can handle 3,000 tonnes of steel in 1.5 days compared with 3 days before.

The deposit uses 144 LED light with 230 watt, which consumes around 23% lower electricity than 1,000 watt mercury lamp. The firm expects the deposit roof can be used as evacuation space in case of major tsunami.

The firm tries to improve the delivery service for the users around there by utilizing the new 65,000 tonnes of deposit. The parent company of POSCO Japan expects POSCO-JNPC offers new value added services including blanking materials and more efficient transport by utilizing the total annual 320,000 tonnes of processing capacity and 150,000 tonnes of deposit capacity.
