Ferrous scrap market price is flat at 33,500-34,500 yen per tonne for H2 grade at local electric furnace steel makers’ purchase price around Tokyo. The price is 1,000 yen lower than the beginning of August and the price could decrease more. However, the price showed no significant decrease when the dealers expect price rebound in September.
Local electric furnaces’ ferrous scrap purchase is due to maintenance outage at some makers from late August through early September and low operation level from power consumption control. The scrap export price is weak and electric furnaces reduced the scrap purchase price around Osaka. Market sources see the scrap price could decrease around Tokyo. On the other hand, the range of ferrous scrap price decrease was small around Tokyo when the scrap supply was very tight in this summer. One dealer source sees the scrap demand would increase depending on the electric furnaces’ operation in two three-day weekends in September.M | T | W | T | F | S | S |
