Rebar Shipment to Increase by 7% to 2.9Mt in Tokyo for F2011

Concrete reinforcing steel bar shipment of 11 electric furnace steel makers around Tokyo would increase by more than 7% to 2.9 million tonnes for fiscal 2011 ending in March 2012 from fiscal 2010.

Rebar shipment of 11 electric furnaces around Tokyo would increase by more than 10% for first half of fiscal 2011 from same period of fiscal 2010 while the impact on the shipment by the major earthquake was concerned. The shipment is expected to rebound for fiscal 2011 from the recent bottom of 2.5 million tonnes in fiscal 2009.

The monthly rebar shipment is firm at around 240,000 tonnes for July-September while electric furnaces decrease the output due to maintenance outage. Electric furnace sources see the demand would increase for condominium and office building for second half of fiscal 2011.
