Japanese ferrous scrap consumption decreased by 2.1% to 3.858 million tonnes in December 2005 from the previous month for converter steel, electric furnace steel, casting and others, according to Japan Ferrous Raw Materials Association. The consumption increased by 1.9% to 755,000 tonnes for converter steel. The scrap ratio to raw materials was 10.4%, up by 0.2 points from November. The scrap consumption decreased by 2.3% to 2.544 million tonnes for electric furnace steel and by 6% to 561,000 tonnes for casting and others.
