World largest titanium maker, Titanium Metals Corporation of USA announced to expand titanium ingot output. The firm adds a new electron beam cold hearth melt furnace with around 8,500 tonnes of annual output capacity at the plan in Morgantown, Pennsylvania for around US$ 35 million increasing the total electron beam output capacity by around 50%. The firm starts operation of new electron beam furnace in January-March 2008.The firm developed technology to produce titanium alloy by electron beam furnace for the first time in the world and marketed the product for automobile and other industries. The process can shorten the lead time to produce titanium alloy without additional process, which needs for traditional vacuum arc remelting process.
