Ferrous scrap export shipment from Osaka bay area increased by 17.9% to 263,689 tonnes in fiscal 2005 to March 2006 from 223,583 tonnes in fiscal 2004, according to Kansai Tetsugen. Especially heavy scrap export increased by 144.1% to 83,561 tonnes from 34,235 tonnes. The mixed scrap export increased by 3.2% to 166,566 tonnes from 161,350 tonnes while the A grade pressed scrap export decreased by 52.9% to 13,162 tonnes from 27,926 tonnes. The scrap export was 18,950 tonnes in March, which was 1.8% lower than 19,297 tonnes in February and 13% lower than 21,900 tonnes a year earlier. The heavy scrap export was 5,000 tonnes, up by 19% from 4,200 in February and up by 25% from 4,000 tonnes a year earlier. The mixed scrap export was 13,950 tonnes, up by 1.8% from 13,697 tonnes in February and up by 9% from 12,786 tonnes a year earlier while the area didn’t export A grade pressed scrap in March.
