Japanese ferrous scrap export marked the record at 7.505 million tonnes in fiscal 2005 ended March 2006, increasing by 11.2% from fiscal 2004, according to the trade statistics by Ministry of Finance. Export for both China and South Korea exceeded 3 million tonnes. Japanese ferrous scrap export still continues increasing.Export for South Korea increased by 22.4% to 3.028 million tonnes in fiscal 2005 from the previous year. South Korean steel makers seemed to purchase more ferrous scrap from overseas and to balance domestic scrap supply and demand in order to keep domestic ferrous scrap price at the level. Export for China increased by 13.7% to 3.286 million tonnes, while that for Taiwan decreased by 1.9% to 886,000 tonnes.
