The market price of no.2 heavy copper scrap is increasing in Tokyo. The price stays at the extremely high level when Japanese official copper ingot price keeps surging, which is regarded as an indicator for copper scrap prices. In addition, scrap demand is strong from copper smelters and copper alloy products makers to secure requirement by adding premiums on their purchasing prices. The price range is wide from 750 yen to above 800 yen per kilogram and depends on cases.Copper smelters and copper alloy products makers are increasing their outputs and seeking copper scrap more than before. Makers are in continuous scramble for copper scrap. The premium on makers’ purchasing prices is increasing as a result. A source of copper alloy products maker said they could not secure copper scrap without premium. In some trading cases, market price of no.2 heavy copper scrap increases to the same level as no.1 heavy copper scrap, grade of which is higher than no.2. Price rank of copper scrap is confused due to premiums, though which is normally based on scrap grade.
