Kobe Steel’s welding unit announced on Wednesday the unit opens Shanghai office on June 1 to meet growing demand in China. The unit tries to expand the export from Japan for Chinese shipbuilders and building industry. The unit expanded the approach for Chinese market in 2004. The unit has expanded the business mainly for energy industry including orders for various projects. The unit decided to open the new office to improve the service for local users. The office tries to develop new users including projects and local human network along with information collection for higher sales. The office, which is in Shanghai office of Kobe Steel, starts the operation as one man office in June expanding the manpower to more than 2 in fiscal 2007 starting April 2007. The office hires a local engineer and a local office worker. The unit has global supply network with 9 production and sales sites including USA, Netherlands, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, China and Malaysia. The unit produces solid wire for mild steel at Kobe Welding of Tangshan in Hebei.
