JFE Steel’s Fukuyama Produces Total 50 million tonnes of Plate

JFE Steel announced on Monday the plate output exceeded total 50 million tonnes at Fukuyama’s plate mill of West Japan works in May since the mill started the operation in January 1968. The total plate output of West Japan works exceeded 100 million tonnes after the Kurashiki’s plate mill output exceeded 50 million tonnes in 2001. Fukuyama’s plate mill supplies plate products for shipbuilding and welded pipe. The mill installed on line accelerated cooling or OLAC in 1980 for the first time in the world. The mill adopted work roll shift system in 1985 for the first time in the world to establish production ability for thermo-mechanical control process plate with the high reducing rolling method. The Fukuyama’s mill replaced the cooling system with brand-new Super-OLAC in 1998. The mill added heat treatment on line process or HOP in 2003. The mill has supplied high valued products for shipbuilders and welded pipe with the state of the art on line control and mass production technology along with the development of the new products. JFE Steel expects the plate demand keeps firm and the demand for high valued products increases. The firm tries to meet the growing demand by improving the quality and productivity establishing no.1 plate brand in the world with the ability to meet various users’ needs.
