Onamba to Establish New Plant for FPD Wiring Unit in China

Onamba, Osaka based electric wire and cable maker, plans to establish a new plant to produce internal wiring unit for flat panel display (FPD) in China within 2006. The firm will hold 10 plants producing FPD wiring unit worldwide including the new one. The firm also considers the establishment of another plant in Vietnam in order to cover the world FPD market growth.Onamba will construct the new plant in Jiangsu region of China. The firm already has a subsidiary to produce FPD internal wiring unit in the region, Onamba Electronic Parts (Kunshan). The new plant will become the second factory of Onamba Electronic Parts (Kunshan) and start operation within 2006 at the earliest.Onamba is the top maker of FPD internal wiring unit with more than 30% world market share. The firm produces the wiring unit at 9 plants worldwide, 3 of which locate in China, 2 of which in Malaysia and the rest in Indonesia, Thailand, Mexico and Czech. Chinese new plant will be the 10th production base of FPD wiring unit and Onamba’s 16th offshore base.Onamba considers the establishment of another plant in Vietnam where the employment cost is relatively cheap in order to expand FPD wiring unit business and to diversify the business risk with the expectation for Chinese yuan appreciation. Onamba has a wire assembling base in Hanoi City of the country, SD Vietnam Industries for which Onamba has 33.3% management share and Sumiden Tomita Shoji 66.7%.
