Japan Electric Wire Export and Import Increase in Jan-Jun

Japanese export value of electric wire and cable including optical fiber and cable increased by 14% to 135.897 billion yen in January-June 2006 from the same period of 2005 and the import value also increased by 34.5% to 243.817 billion yen, announced by Japan Electric Wire & Cable Trading Association. The export increased especially for wires and cables for electric appliances. The import remarkably increased for wires and cables for transporter, most of which are automotive wiring harness.Wires and cables for electric appliances, which represent as electric conductors with less than 80 voltage of working voltage other than telecommunication wire and cables in the statistics, account for more than 30% of Japanese total wire and cable export in value. The export value increased by 35.9% in January-June 2006 from the same period of 2005. The export decreased for optical cable while increased for optical fiber in the period.The import value of wires and cables for transporter, which represents more than 50% of Japanese total import value, increased by 40.6% in January-June 2006 from the same period of 2005. The import also increased by 31.6% for wires and cables for electric appliances. Out-in production seemed to increase largely for auto wiring harness and cables for electric appliances when Japanese domestic production of automobiles and electric appliances maintained active.
