Firm Rebar Price in Tokyo

Concrete reinforcing steel bar price is around 60,000 yen per tonne for base size with 19 millimeters diameter around Tokyo. The local makers keep high level shipment with 3-3.5 months of lead time for base size products. The price is likely to increase toward the year end under higher raw materials cost. Local rebar shipment is high level at around 350,000 tonnes per month. The shipment is expected to keep the level in January-March when the makers have sufficient order backlog though the decreases to around 300,000 tonnes in the slow demand season. The local makers try to pass higher cost price of ferrous scrap under the firm demand. An official of local maker said the firm is forced to increase the selling price under surging cost. The makers could reduce the profit when the scrap price is expected to keep 30,000 yen per tonne level.
