Colored galvanizing flat steel price is firm at 215,000 yen per tonne for small coil and 194,000 yen for large coil with 35 millimeters thick around Tokyo. The distributors try to increase the reselling price after makers’ hikes. The price is likely to keep firm though the price increase could take longer time under the slower demand season.

A maker source said makers’ inventory is normal. The distributors’ inventory is also normal. The distributors already started the price increase action when the distributors cannot absorb the 10,000 yen per tonne of hike by the makers though the users could resist the move. The distributors try to pass the higher cost on the market smoothly.

The demand is in line with the level a year ago. However, the distributors’ shipment decreases when the major using area of northern Japan is in winter season and the housing start decreases while the demand is firm for nonresidential building under aggressive capital expenditure by companies.
