Nihon Superior Opens Lead-free Solder Sales Base in USA

Osaka based solder and related products maker, Nihon Superior announced on Friday the firm established a sales site in the U.S.A. and started its operation. The firm plans to sell 400 tonnes of solder per year in fiscal 2007 ending March 2008 and 800 tonnes after 3 years at the US site, mainly for its original lead-free solder “SN100C” based on tin-copper-nickel alloy.

The new site, Nihon Superior USA, is wholly owned by the parent and located in Palisades Park of New Jersey. Nihon Superior now holds 7 overseas business sites in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Suzhou Region and Shanghai in China, Taiwan and the U.S.A., which opened a site in the U.S.A. for the first time.

The US subsidiary sells solder and solder related products totally such as bar, wire and paste, mainly for lead-free solder products. Nihon Superior already has a license agreement with Florida Cir Tech, which is the US corporation to sell electronic assembly and printed circuit process chemistry. Nihon Superior aims to increase the sales in the U.S.A. taking advantage of cooperation with Florida Cir Tech.

In July 2006 European Union carried out Restriction of Hazardous Substances along which most electric appliances are obliged to use lead-free solder. Japanese major consumer electronics makers mostly finished switch to lead-free solder, while the shift is slower in the U.S.A. than Europe and Asia. Potential demand for lead-free solder is expected in the country.
