Ferrous scrap market price is firm at 17,400 yen per tonne for steel turning scrap, 20,400 yen for A grade pig iron turning scrap and 19,400 yen per tonne for B grade pig iron turning scrap at dealers’ purchase price including freight around Tokyo. The price is likely to keep firm when the scrap shipping from Tokyo bay will increase in the week. The scrap supply was easy around Tokyo under slower scrap shipping and outage at Funabashi plant of Godo Steel in January. Local electric furnace steel makers reduced the scrap purchase prices by around 3,000 yen per tonne. However, the market condition changed recently. Utsunomiya plant of Tokyo Steel Manufacturing increased the purchase price on February 9 and 14. Other makers followed the move to increase the prices. Ferrous scrap market price turned into strong at around 23,000 yen per tonne for H2 grade around Osaka.
